A final senior obligation due date for books, locks or any other financial obligation is Friday, June 15, 2012 for any obligations incurred after May 25, 2012. After May 25, 2012, personal checks will not be accepted. Payments must be made through certified bank check, money order, or cash.
2012 Summer Reading This summer, East Windsor High School students will be participating in the 2nd year of a new approach to our summer reading program. Once again, reading selections are recommended for each grade. What is different is that these titles will have a thematic concept in common, such as peer pressure. This plan will also allow for students to choose other books (not on the list) that connect to their grade-related themes. Upon returning to school, students will take part in follow-up activities that will connect those themes, their related reading choices, and their personal life experiences. (In addition, students in honors English classes will be required to read specific titles.) Before we break for the summer, the recommended reading lists will be publicized and shared with all students and staff, and limited copies will be made available in the school’s library media center. In addition, these general guidelines and the lists will be posted on the high school link at the East Windsor Public Schools website. It is hoped and anticipated that these changes will be more appealing to the students. After all, reading plays many roles in our lives, and like most things, the more we do it, the better we get at it.
Nook Ebook Reader Winner The winner of the library media center’s free drawing for a Barnes and Noble Simple Touch ebook reader is Jacob Morin. To enter, students simply had to check out a book from the LMC during the month of April. Congratulations to Jake.

SAT Practice Problems
SAT Math Practice In the figure below, AD = 4, AB = 3 and CD = 9. What is the area of triangle AEC?
A. 18 The answer is D. Triangle ABE and triangle DCE are similar triangles. They both have a 90 degree angle and angle E has the same measure in both triangles. Using this information, one can label side AE as x and DE as 4 – x because those two sides add up to 4. Sides AB and CD are corresponding sides in the similar triangles. Therefore, one can set up a proportion to solve for small: large triangles.
Miss Boiczyk The art students here at EWHS are learning and continuing to create fantastic artwork! The Ceramics II students have been working very hard, applying advanced ceramics techniques to create all types of artwork. They are learning on how throw pottery on the potter’s wheel, and are learning about symbolism and personal expression. They are creating a “Story Pot” that is a three dimensional illustration either a personal story, or a children’s story (from a book). They are also working on developing Themes and figuring out how to express chosen themes in their artwork. These advanced projects require a great deal of thought, creativity, and technical acuity- all of which takes time. Please look in the display case for recent works and attend the Spring Art show for more- as they are currently works in progress! The Drawing students just completed a unit on “Industrial Objects” where they took something ordinary- such as pipes, tools, engines- and made it extraordinary through their use of color, view, and composition. They worked in chalk pastel for this project in a larger format. Their work is excellent! The Advanced Art students continue their artistic expression through a variety of chosen avenues, themes, concepts and media. Some students are painting, some are drawing and even some are working three dimensionally! You can see their efforts through their work! I would like to congratulate the following students whose artwork has been chosen to be displayed at the state capitol for the annual “Art at the Capitol” exhibit. Freshmen Tucker Rajala and Ashley Paleski; sophomores Nicole Elliott and Alyssa Ryan; juniors Rachel Martin and Amarah Veilleux; and seniors Carleigh Proctor and Marvin Barnes. Their work will be on display through the month of May in the concourse at the state legislative office building in Hartford. Stop by to see their impressive works AND to view the artworks of other students from schools in the state! Another special congratulations to Aubri Kozuch who was chosen as this years recipient of the CT Association of Schools Outstanding Artist. She attending a special banquet at the Aqua Turf and received an award in her honor. This prestigious award recognizes artists from every high school in the state of CT for their excellence in visual arts! What an amazing and deserving honor! Lastly, this year’s end of the year Art Show will be held at the Warehouse Point Library from June 1st for about 2 weeks! This show is expected to be quite extensive and will showcase and recognize the amazing talent and creativity that exists here at the high school! It is my hopes that artwork from both the Middle School and Broadbrook Elementary will also be on display! PLEASE check it out- and check out some books while you’re at it!
